Tirupati, located in Andhra Pradesh, is a city famous for the temple of Lord Venkateshwara situated atop the Tirumala Hills. The temple is one of the most visited religious places of the world, and its existence in the city has made it a sacred place among the people in India. Thondaimaan, a Tamil king, completed the construction of the temple, which was reformed further by Cholas and later Telugu Kings. The city of Tirupati lies at the foothills of Tirumala, which is also known as Seshachala hills and "Yaedu Kondalu". Tirumala, sprawling in an area of 26.8 sq. km, consists of seven peaks, the largest of which is situated at a height of 980 meter above the sea level. These seven hills are Seshadri, Garudadri, Vrishabhadri, Venkatadri, Neeladri, Narayanadri and Anjanadri. The city of Tirupati is administered by a municipal corporation, which looks after its everyday maintenance requirements. The boom in the real estate sector and the construction work being carried out by the Tirupati Urban Development Authority are continuously expanding its borderlines beyond the present land area of about 1380 sq. km. Alongside residential construction, development in commercial segment is also gaining momentum with the advent of IT, BPO and Health Industries. The city's growing reputation as a major center of tourism, education, entertainment and commerce is placing Tirupati at an important position on the map of India.
