Rajasthan, the largest state in India area wise, is located in the north western part of the country. Its neighborhood consists of states like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. Towards the west, it shares a borderline with Pakistan. The state of Rajasthan comprises most of the Great Indian Desert (Thar Desert), which is an area known for severe climate and hard life. Another significant geographical feature in the state is the Aravalli Range, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. Aravalli mountains run through the state from its southwest to the northeast dividing it into two parts. Most part of the state falls in the zone that receives very less average annual rainfall. Mount Abu is a famous hill station located on the southwestern end of the Aravalli range, and it is the only hill station in the entire state. Rajasthan is the homeland of the great Rajput rulers who were known for their chivalry, courage and patriotism. A large part of the state is covered by forest areas, which are home to a wide variety of wildlife. Some of the famous reserves and sanctuaries of the country are located here. Among them are Ranthambore and Sariska Tiger Reserves, and Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Rajasthan is a popular tourist destination known for grand palaces, colorful culture, royal tradition and a rich wildlife. There are 33 districts and seven divisions in Rajasthan. Some of famous districts in the state include Ajmer, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Bikaner and Jaisalmer. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan.
